Background
With the popularity of running and overall fitness continuing to grow, the number of foot, ankle, and knee injuries due to overuse factors is certain to increase. Overuse injuries are caused by repetitive microtrauma to the tendons, bones and joints (often as a result of a runner/jogger not wearing shoes and equipment that compliments their natural movement patterns, i.e. gait). Thus, most overuse injuries could be prevented by training properly and knowing when the body is at risk, but few have the means to gauge their body’s performance and assess their risk.
The Gait Keeper™ solution is a portable gait analyzer that provides a cost effective and accurate analysis of the critical biomechanical factors that are essential to prevent foot and body injuries, assist the recovery/rehabilitation process, and aid/enhance in exercise and athletic training.

Genesis
Gait analysis is a technique that measures joint motion and forces to diagnose movement pathologies, determine the severity of injury, select treatment options and monitor progress, and predict prognosis. Unfortunately, due to the extraordinary cost (thousands of dollars) to a patient, gait analysis is only available in the most extreme cases or to the few who can afford it. The Gait Keeper™ concept was originally conceived to tackle this problem.
The Gait Keeper™ enables podiatrists and orthotic/prosthetic clinics to better evaluate an immensely larger patient population, as well as further research in human gait, neuromuscular control, and cutting-edge biomechanical device technologies. But the value of the Gait Keeper™ portable gait analyzer goes beyond the clinical setting, as the majority of Americans suffer from foot problems, mainly due to neglect and lack of awareness of proper footwear. Gait Keeper™ products are envisioned to be used by everybody so that they can be informed when footwear are not properly structured (and fitted) and when properly matched shoes have failed or worn out.
